More and more people are looking now to fitness and healthy eating as a new high. People are learning that friends and family who flaunt/promote drugs or alcohol really aren't friends at all. Do I really want to be like those types? Are they really happy?

In my job as a therapist and addictions counselor, I hope to teach others valuable lessons I have learned in life.

Thoughts and Questions for Today:

How is this guiding me toward who I want to become?

What can I reduce or remove from my life?

I have to walk before I can run—easy does it.

Will gratitude journaling help me today?

Always ask: Why not me?

I am constantly evolving and reinventing myself.

Live slow. Slow mornings are the best. Don't start the day getting your knickers in a wad.

Rome was not built in one day. Slowly is the fastest way to get to where you want to be.

My favorite words are: resilience, vigilance, perseverance, meticulous, and tenacity.

When speaking, ask: Is it necessary? Is it useful? Is it true? Is it uplifting?

Gossip is the Devil's radio. Watch out for the joy-stealers: gossip, criticism, complaining, smugness, faultfinding, and a negative judgmental attitude.

I need to re-evaluate how I post on our leaders and politics. Am I just adding gas to this fire? How can I criticize unless I am a good leader first? Perhaps I need to step away from constant social media and news and regain perspective on this. I also need a break for my sanity or what good am I to anyone?

3 C's: Don't Criticize, Condemn, or Complain (this is a tough one for me)

How can I cultivate peace within my family, among my friends, in my community, and in the world?

I met with Matthew Roberts today - a mover and shaker in the sobriety field - from Smart Recovery. Matt has introduced me to a whole range of healing techniques—like Myofascial Release, Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation, Neuromyst, sensory deprivation tanks, cold gel packs for the face, cold plunges, and the Polyvagal Theory. He’s even gifting me a gravity inversion table! He is now starting a new demension called "Open Source Recovery - "Awareness, Acceptance, Perspective". Matt sold me my first "Smart Recovery Manual" back in 2016. During Covid that saved my life along with the Zoom meetings for Smart Recovery Online. During Covid I sometimes did three Zoom meetings a day! Why? Connections and fun! I felt zero isolation during the pandemic - thanks to Smart. If you suffer from any maladaptive behavior - codependency, sexual maladaptive behavior, alcohol or drug addiction, gambling, porn, love, eating disorders... Smart Recovery is a game changer. The best $10 I ever spent. It saved my life.

Matt, It was such a pleasure to pick your brain for an hour. Thank you, Matt. We have choices in life. AA has its great points - but many are seeking an alternative: SmartRecovery.org Join a meeting in person or online. My favorite is the "Toolbox" on SmartRecovery.org - try the "Lifestyle Balance Wheel" - my favorite smart tool. Sober Curious is the new trend. Again, we choose how we live our lives and who we hang around. Remove toxicity from your life. Find your natural high through healthy habits and healthy people - that is the essence of SMART. Peace and Love, Evan
